Roulette tips and strategy

The casino game of Roulette has been around for quite a while, with a history as varied and exciting as imaginable. The Small Wheel, aka Roulette, is a wheel of chance game where you make your bets on the number which you think will bring you luck. Online Roulette offers three popular variations of play. American, European and French Roulette. There are subtle differences in each, just enough for people to make their preferences upon.

American Roulette has 38 slots on the wheel, for the numbers 1 - 36, 0 and 00. There are 38 numbers on the table representing the same numbers as on the wheel. The table also has betting areas that are clearly marked for the type of bet you wish to make. European Roulette has the same numbers, minus the 00, and the table is layedout in the same way.

There are many types of bets you can place on the Roulette Table, by getting to know the layout of the table, the types of bets will make more sense as the table is set up according to the numbers on the wheel and the types of bets on these numbers.

The easiest way to remember the bets types is to keep in mind that you can make your bet on one, two, three, four, five, six, twelve or eighteen numbers at a time, these bets are outlined below.

Inside Bets

For betting on one number, place your chips directly on the number, making sure the chip is inside the square and not touching any line. A win on this bet pays 35 to 1.

For betting on two numbers, place your chips on the line between the numbers you've chosen. A win on this bet pays 17 to 1.

For betting on three numbers, place your chips on the line dividing the inside area and the outside aread. A win on this bet pays 11 to 1.

For betting on four numbers, place your chips where the four numbers come together to make a square. A win on this bet pays 8 to 1.

For betting on five numbers, place your chips above the two and between the 0 and the 00. A win on this bet pays 6 to 1.

For betting on six numbers, place your chips directly between two, three number rows. A win on this bet pays 5 to 1.

Outside Bets

Even Money Bets are placed in the outside betting area on your choice of low numbers 1 - 18, or high numbers 19 - 36, red or black numbers and even or odd numbers.

Column Bets are placed at the end on each of three rows of numbers, indicating the numbers you believe may come up next. A win on this bet pays 2 to 1.

Dozen Bets are placed on numbers in groups of twelve, divided as 1st 12, 2nd 12 and 3rd 12. A win on this bet pays 2 to 1.

French Roulette has a few twists added to the game, and is played with just the single 0. On Even Money bets, the En Prison rule is applied. This states that if the ball lands on the 0, a player may leave his bet in play for the next spin. Some casinos will allow the player to leave half his bet and if the ball lands on 0 again, the bet is lost.

On Outside Even Money bets such as Red or Black, High or Low numbers or Odd or Even, the La Partage Rule states that a player loses half the bet when the ball lands on 0, without being able to leave it for the next spin. This actually cuts the house edge greatly in favor of the player.

The types of bets are the same as other Roulette games, but are indentified in French on the table.
